When to Visit Rome

 

The Rome weather is typical of a European city, experiencing hot and pleasant summers and cold winters where it can sometimes snow. The busiest season for visitors to Rome is during the summer, especially in August when the city is packed. Many choose to visit the city just before the high season sometime in April or May when the weather is still excellent. However, as there are so many things to do in Rome you can visit at any period of the year and have an incredible time. Cheap flights to Rome may be easier to find outside of the high season, but if you book early enough you can always find great rates.

There are two main airports in Rome – Leonardo da Vinci International Airport and Rome Ciampino Airport. Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, also commonly known as Rome Fiumicino Airport, is the country’s busiest airport, while Rome Ciampino Airport is favored by budget airlines. Emirates and Alitalia operate flights from Dubai International Airport to Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, while those flying from Abu Dhabi International Airport can travel with Etihad Airways and Alitalia to the same airport. There are currently no flights from Rome Ciampino Airport to the UAE or Middle East.

Italy is part of the Schengen Area, so all Schengen Area and EU nationals are able to enter into the country without a visa. In addition to this, nationals of over 60 countries including the UAE are also able to visit Italy without requiring a visa. The currency used in Italy is the Euro, currently used by 19 out of the 28 EU member states. Italy is two hours behind the UAE, so be sure to wind back your clocks two hours when you land.
